In December 1997 Sue had a Colostomy and hysterectomy. Sue now lives in Cornwall with her husband Neil, 11 chickens, 2 dogs and 2 cats. She and Neil run a holiday letting and are very involved in community life. She is passionate about the CA and her grandchildren!

He was the Founder member of the North Staffordshire "Outlook "(an Ostomy Support Group) which has membership of almost 300.

Jackie Dudley - Trustee

Berkshire

Born in 1939 Jackie Dudley was diagnosed with terminal cancer of the uterus and bowel in 2001. After an operation for a colostomy followed by chemotherapy she believes her continuing good health is due to the love, support and prayers of family and friends. Jackie became a volunteer for the BCA - later the CA - in 2002 and knows that the support they give to pre and post opertive colostomates is priceless. Knowing that she was not alone in 'Living with a colostomy' helped with her recovery and now Jackie runs two support groups in Berkshire to ensure that there is always somewhere that ostomates can meet to make and meet new friends, who feel as they do.

Mary Thomas - Trustee

Buckinghamshire

Born in Wales, Mary has spent all her working life in England apart from a short spell with the British Army in Germany and is a Fellow of the Institute of Internal Auditors. In October 2008 she retired as Head of Internal Audit of a major central government department where she provided the Director General with an independent opinion on the adequacy and effectiveness of the organisation's governance and risk management, and advice on how best their business control systems might be improved. Following retirement, Mary became a volunteer with a local 'hospice at home' charity and with the Colostomy Association and also continues her studies at Birkbeck College, University of London pursuing her particular interest in art and architecture, which accounts for much of her travel to far flung places.

Rosemary Brierley - Trustee

Nottinghamshire

Rosemary spent her early working life in the NHS. After graduating with a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, she worked with people with diabetes, a job she really enjoyed. However, after emergency surgery to drain a pelvic abscess led to ongoing bowel problems and further operations, she opted for early retirement. So her life took a new turn: She became a colostomate, remarried, worked as a volunteer for the Citizens Advice Bureau then got a new job as an associate lecturer in Health and Disease with the Open University. In 1996 she became a volunteer, first with BCA and then with the CA. Rosemary takes calls on the out-of- hours helpline and is also on the committee of her local Stoma Support Group. From 2006 to 2008 she was editor of Tidings magazine and has recently re-joined the editorial team as associate editor.
